With a heavyweight Easter schedule on the cards this weekend, Sunday offers a string of eye-catching affairs from across Europe. For those of you who are looking to place a Sunday accumulator, we have found a handful of helpful tips that offer great value.
Sunday April 9th
BST 14:00 Montpellier vs Toulouse
Putting in another impressive display on their return from the international break last week as they snatched a 1-1 draw away at top-four contenders Marseille, Montpellier have only continued on a stellar run of form over the past two months. Heading into the fortnight interval with a 2-1 victory at home against Clermont, La Paillade should find the mood in their camp at a red-hot high. With their sights now firmly set on clinching a top-half finish this season, Michel Der Zakarian’s men are unbeaten in each of their last seven straight Ligue 1 appearances. With that extended purple patch stemming all the way back to February 5th, Montpellier have also gained a real reputation for their success on home soil. Including a 5-0 romp against Angers last month, it should be highlighted that the one-time Nantes boss has seen his side muster 10 points from their last four Ligue 1 contests at the Stade de la Mosson. Continuing to impress in the final third, Sunday’s hosts will be hopeful of making another top-flight statement. Although Toulouse might have punched their Coupe de France semi-final ticket in midweek, Les Violets are enduring a major Ligue 1 struggle. Marking their return from the international break with a 3-1 drumming away at Brest, Philippe Montanier’s side have lost five of their previous six top-flight appearances.
Tip: Montpellier win @ 11/10
18:30 Hoffenheim vs Schalke
While Hoffenheim might still find themselves at the heart of a relegation scrap, Sunday’s hosts have certainly shown some recent improvements on either side of the international break. Marking their return to Bundesliga duties with what could be a season-defining 2-1 win away at Werder Bremen, Pellegrino Matarazzo’s men will be desperate to make another statement here. Heading into the fortnight interval with a stellar 3-1 romp at home against Hertha Berlin on March 18th, the former Stuttgart boss has also seen his side find a recent clinical edge in the final third. Looking to skyrocket away from a looming bottom-three tussle, Matarazzo will be calling on the red-hot Andrej Kramaric to spearhead their charge on Sunday evening. Once again finding the net away at Bremen last weekend, the 31-year-old has now notched four strikes in as many appearances from club and country over the past few weeks. However, although Schalke might have breathed life back into their own charge for survival prior to the international break, the Blues certainly came crashing back down to earth last weekend. Hit with a 3-0 drumming at home against Bayer Leverkusen, Thomas Reis’ side should also be worried by their most recent meeting against Sunday’s hosts. Slumping to a stunning 5-1 loss when they traveled to Hoffenheim for a DFP Pokal showdown on October 10th, we are backing a similar outcome here.
Tip: Hoffenheim win & Over 1.5 goals @ 5/4
20:00 Rayo Vallecano vs Atletico Madrid
Only continuing on what has been a real purple patch since returning from the World Cup’s winter break, Atletico Madrid are cruising towards another top-four finish this season. Last seen putting in another eye-catching performance as they claimed a 1-0 victory at home against Real Betis on their return from the fortnight interval, Diego Simeone’s men are riding what has been a real wave of momentum. Heading into the international break with a 3-0 romp against Valencia, Sunday’s guests should be smelling the chance to make another La Liga statement here. In fact, Atletico are unbeaten in each of their last 11 straight top-flight appearances – a run that stems all the way back to January 6th. With their extended flurry highlighted by a famous 6-1 romp against Sevilla last month, Los Colchoneros have also found some recent defensive resolve. Keeping a clean sheet in each of their previous three consecutive La Liga victories, Simeone’s side will be looking to cash in on a Vallecano squad who are enduring a recent struggle. While Sunday’s hosts might have marked their return from the international break with a 1-1 draw away at Valencia, Andoni Iraola’s men are in the midst of a seven-match winless run. With Atletico claiming a 1-0 win when they traveled to the Estadio de Vallecas last season, we are expecting a similar outcome this weekend.
